About Our Studio
We are an Australian industrial design company based out of Byron Bay with a global perspective, developing high impact, low cost solutions for the developing world.
In particular, we are fascinated by the simplicity and ingeniousness of a high temperature combustion process called “Rocket Stoves”. These clever creatures burn smoke, giving greater efficiency and lower pollution at the same time. That’s a win / win!
They can also be made in high tech and low tech formats. We’ve explored both, and love both options, depending on the situation.
Social Impact That Works
Even though Rocket Man Designs is a For Profit Social Enterprise, we have the luxury of deciding whether to commercialise an idea or not. Some ideas are just too important to monetise, such as a Smokeless Cookstove made of clay that has the potential to literally save millions of lives. That idea we happily gave away, and we’re proud of the work being done by the Smokeless Cookstove Foundation in India, sharing it with the women who need it the most.

Himalayan Rocket Stove
The Himalayan Rocket Stove social enterprise company is currently focussed on commercialising our range of domestic combustion heater designs in the Himalayan regions of northern India and Nepal.
Smokeless Cookstove Foundation
The Smokeless Cookstove Foundation has been set up specifically to roll out the ingenious design for a low to no cost solution to Household Air Pollution. The design for this came out of the prototyping and development phase for the Himalayan Rocket Stove product range, and has now taken on a life of its own.
Eco Stoves Australia
This is the brand we use to bring products to market in Australia. Eco Stoves Australia features some of the designs we find most suitable for the Australian market. Note that these are sold as “outdoor BBQ or camping” products and are not suitable to be installed inside a building that requires conventional household insurance.
