RMD is an independent design practice with roots in rocket stoves and biomass combustion. The aim is better use of heat; the work is in the details.

Materials and manufacture
are part of the design.
A stove has to work with the fuel people can get, the materials a partner can source and the conditions where it will be used. Drawings are one part of that job. Prototypes, measurements and feedback matter too.
Himalayan Rocket Stove in India provides a public example of RMD designs moving into local production and use. It also shows why development continues after the first build.

Start with the application.
Who will use it? What fuel is available? What has to be heated, and what are the constraints on manufacture and installation?
Build something testable
Use drawings, models and prototypes to examine the geometry, materials and fabrication before committing to the next stage.
Learn from measurements and use.
Set out what needs testing, compare the results with the assumptions and be clear about what is still unverified.
The digital side
Websites grew alongside
the product work.
Product websites, design tools, energy displays and community projects brought a second strand of work. RMD Studio now gives those clients a separate place to explore examples, prices and their own website brief.
The two sides share a maker’s curiosity. Each has its own purpose and its own tests.
